Oil is a great medium for suspending color pigments because it has very high saturation, meaning that oil paints can hold a lot of colors, so they get very thick on the canvas. Oil paint is a special type of painting medium known for its viscosity, slow drying time, and its use by some of the most important painters in history. Another distinctive feature of oil paints is that they dry so slowly that some colors don't dry completely even after months.
Nowadays, the development of digital technology allows us to be able to create oil painting effects using photoshop software. In this post, I present a digital painting with an oil paint effect using photoshop with the object is cute brunette (original image can find here). The technique to create an oil painting effect using photoshop is as follows:
- I use image size 1380 px; 1380 px, with the resolution of 300 ppi
- I use multi-layer + layer mask for each image
- To create an oil painting effect, each image uses the filter - noise - greyCstoration, after that use the filter - artistic - watercolor
- Use the smudge brush tools
- Then sharpen each image using the filter - sharpen - smart sharpen
- Lighting effects using brightness and contrast (with contrast -32, and brightness 75)
- Color effects using vibrance (with vibrance 0, and saturation -25)
The last word, there's nothing better than the feeling of sitting down at your laptop and starting digital painting.
